KICK-ASS 2 Not Doing So "Kick Ass" After All

Despite early predictions that Kick-Ass 2 would dominate the top spot in the North American box office weekend, the film has earned only 13.6 million and is tied for third place with last week's Elysium.  We know Universal was hoping for much more and expected the sequel to take in more money domestically than the original Kick-Ass movie.

The budget for Kick-Ass 2 was only $28 million, so the sequel still has some time to turn things around. The movie kicked off its international run with 6.3 million and will open in more territories next weekend.

"We were disappointed we didn't match the opening of the first movie," said Nikki Rocco, Universal president of distribution. "The good thing is that it represented very minimal risk for the studio, and the first film did very well in ancillary markets, so we'll see where this goes domestically and internationally."

Poor Kick-Ass.  If this saddens you, here is a picture of a sexy Aaron Johnson to cheer you up.
